CCOCC’s professional staff is made up of a culturally and ethnically diverse group of master’s and doctoral-level therapists who are committed to offering high-quality counseling services. While we each operate from a solid Christian perspective, we are also respectful and sensitive to clients’ varying beliefs and worldviews. All therapists have experience and expertise in working with a wide variety of clinical settings, client concerns, and spiritual, cultural, ethnic, and diversity issues.

Each therapist also has training and expertise in dealing with depression, anxiety, loneliness, singleness, life transitions, relationship concerns, and traditionally underserved populations. As a whole, the therapists at the Center provide individual, couples, and family therapy, consulting, seminars, and assessments.

I am the Executive Director of Cornerstone Counseling Center of Chicago. I am a licensed clinical psychologist and received my degree in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College. I have experience providing therapeutic services across professional settings such as in community mental health, hospital, clinic, and private practice. 

As a therapist, I strive to create a safe and supportive environment in which a collaborative and goal-oriented relationship can develop. Through this safe and supportive relationship, I assist people in increasing awareness of themselves and begin the journey of healing, growth, and change. I work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and across all life stages. I seek to build collaborative relationships and safe environments for my clients.

I utilizes evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing. I also consider my client's unique context and cultural (e.g., race, gender, SES, community, spirituality) background and integrates these constructs in my treatment.

I am the Clinical Director, a supervisor and a licensed clinical professional counselor with Cornerstone Counseling Center of Chicago. I work with clients who want to change their thoughts and behaviors that keep them from experiencing fulfilled and genuinely happy lives. I focus on creating a safe space to develop a therapeutic relationship with you. I use a direct approach, more action-oriented that helps you gain clarity of “how I got here” and moves you towards your goals. I treat stress and anxiety, depression, mood disorders, personality disorders, and alcohol and other substance use issues. My experience ranges from working in outpatient hospital settings, community mental health centers, and private practice. In addition, I will integrate spirituality and Christian perspectives at your request.  My passion and gift for helping others led to me to my calling, becoming a clinical mental health therapist. My belief is that each of us has unique gifts, and our life journey is to discover them, and it is then that we can feel content and enjoy our lives.

I am passionate towards working with individuals through life transitions. I have experience working with anxiety, grief & loss, and depression. I take pride in providing clients with a space to learn and implement healthy coping mechanisms, adaptive thought processes, and self-care practices. I received my Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln before moving back home to receive my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from DePaul University. In my free time, I love spending time with my family and friends, reading by the lake, and trying out different locally-owned coffee shops around the city.

Monica is guided by a strong desire to help people work through things that are getting in the way to live a more balanced, fulfilled, and authentic life. She assists those individuals who feel stuck, trapped, broken, or lost by their own thoughts, feelings, or behaviors.

She is passionate about working with people who are curious about themselves and those who want to explore and understand what’s behind their depression, anxiety, body image issues, low self-worth/esteem, relationship issues, hopelessness, trauma, or shame.

From the initial session to all subsequent visits, clients can anticipate that Monica’s central goal will be to assist them toward living and sustaining intentional, meaningful, vibrant, and wholesome lives with hope, education, healing, direction, and growth. Monica empathically engages her clients while supporting them in their endeavors as they define and refine their true selves.

She considers therapy a gift; the opportunity to journey alongside clients as they disclose their innermost anguish and pain; being able to bear witness to those things and then helping to guide them toward hope, healing, and transformation is truly an honor. Aside from helping clients accomplish their goals, she also assists each client in uncovering their unique cargo; this cargo encompasses a client’s unique strengths, talents, and abilities, which they each uniquely contribute to the world.

For those comfortable integrating Christian themes and perspectives, she is pleased and privileged to help drive therapy forward where clients can discover the grace, belongingness, compassion, and freedom that God unequivocally extends to all people.

Monica graduated from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science in psychology along with a specialization in neuroscience and graduated from Concordia University Chicago with a Master of Arts in clinical mental health counseling. She is a national certified counselor (NCC) and an active member of the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA).

In her free time, she enjoys reading, attending live music events and spoken word, baking, and catching up with family and friends.

I strive to create a welcoming environment where clients can openly express their perspectives and experiences. I have experience working with grief and loss, anxiety, depression, and issues within relationships. I received my Master's in Counseling Psychology from North Park University. I view therapy through a client-centered approach emphasizing human experiences and valuing an equal partnership while integrating cognitive behavioral therapy when appropriate. I prioritize being a resource for clients in their journey toward growing and making progress in their goals. Clients can expect me to be attentive and provide empathy while collaborating to establish where they are and where they want to be. Clients can expect me to be consistent during our time together, challenge them to think critically about their life experiences to improve self-awareness and understanding, and provide guidance through the implementation of healthy coping tools and exercises. In my free time, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and friends, experiencing new things, visiting coffee shops, being outdoors, and staying active while continuing my love for softball by playing on Co-ed teams.

I specialize in Anxiety, Depression, Addiction, and Identity integration. I am a seasoned Master level psychotherapist and clinical supervisor. As graduate of Loyola University of Chicago, I earned a Masters in Clinical Social Work and I hold a certification in Addiction Treatment (Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor). With a decade of experience, I have extensive experience in the mental health field ranging from working with young adults in small groups, addiction recovery clinics, private practice, and for the past 6 years, with Cornerstone Counseling Center of Chicago. As a therapist my approach is person-centered and solution-focused, utilizing empathic understanding, collaboration, and cognitive-behavioral techniques. I engage clients in multimodal approaches in treating various mood disorders. With my Social Work training I am able to effectively and therapeutically integrate each client's unique personal and environmental context while recognizing the role of faith, community, gender, sexuality, and racial background into the therapeutic setting. Overall, I try to utilize a unique combination of these treatment modalities that revolve around ‘meeting you where you are at and growing from there’.

I am a Doctoral Intern who has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. I have provided therapeutic and assessment services across the lifespan in various contexts, including private and group practices and hospital settings. I practice therapy primarily through a cognitive-behavioral lens, with strong humanistic/client-centered leanings. I value the therapeutic relationship and strive to create a safe and warm environment in which clients feel they can be their genuine and authentic selves. I help empower clients to confront maladaptive patterns and belief systems that are negatively impacting their functioning in all areas of life. Upon request, I also integrate Christianity into clinical practice, relying on the belief that all individuals are created in the image of God and therefore inherently valuable.In my free time, I enjoy staying active, caring for my many indoor plants, frequenting local coffee shops, fostering my love for history through reading and podcasts, and participating in my local community choir.

I am a Post-Doctoral Fellow who has experience providing counseling services to children, adolescents, and adults in various settings, including community mental health centers, schools, after school programs, and private practice. I have provided mental health care for individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, as well as other challenges and life stressors. I embrace a strengths-based approach when working with individuals and hope to help you engage in your capacity for introspection, reflection, and self-awareness to better understand your past, present, and future. I also aim to foster hope, healing, and meaning for every client I encounters.

I work collaboratively with individuals and couples who are struggling with grief, anxiety, life transitions, spiritual distress and trauma. I take great care to help clients name their own needs and find therapeutic strategies that make sense to you. I specialize in grief, loss and end of life issues. I hold a Domestic Violence Training Certificate, Level I Gottman Training for Couples and am Internal Family Systems informed. In my free time, you'll find me exploring Chicago with my family and hanging out at the lake with a great book.

I received my doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Wheaton College and am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. I enjoy offering psychological assessments to both celebrate who people are and assist them in areas where they struggle. I can help clarify a person's mental health diagnosis, give in-depth personality descriptions to promote growth, evaluate preparedness for bariatric surgery, fulfill adoption requirements, and determine readiness for missions and seminary training.

My primary role at Cornerstone Counseling is to assist in the training of future clinicians. I am a supervisor for the Chicago Area Christian Training Consortium, which emphasizes the integration of faith-based practice and psychology.

My therapeutic approach is integrative, combining elements from various theoretical perspectives such as psychodynamic theory, emotion-focused therapy, the Gottman method, Adlerian therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy.

I believe early experiences significantly shape our outlook on life, and I am committed to aiding individuals in healing from past hurts. Clients can expect a partnership in a judgment-free zone, where I provide supportive guidance for their healing journey. Additionally, in an effort to foster spiritual growth, my approach also centers around improving clients' relationship with the Divine.

I hold a bachelor's degree from Georgetown University, and a doctoral degree from Adler University.

As a first-generation American, I have special interest in working with immigrant populations. Other clinical interests include anxiety and mood disorders, intergenerational trauma, mindfulness, and mental health accessibility. I'm also a former teacher and enjoy working with adolescents. I work from an eclectic theoretical approach rooted in person-centered, existential, and cognitive behavioral therapies. I'm bilingual and work with Spanish-speaking clients. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Baylor University and my Master’s degree in community counseling from Loyola University Chicago. I am a master’s level intern who is currently completing my third year in the clinical mental health counseling program at DePaul University. I received my undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Kansas with a minor in applied behavioral science. I have a great deal of experience working with children of all ages and in a variety of settings. I am very passionate about working with the child and adolescent population and plan to use cognitive behavioral therapy as the theoretical framework to guide treatment. Other clinical interests include working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, and difficult life transitions. I practice counseling from a strengths-based approach and strive to create an environment where my clients feel safe and supported throughout our time together. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, being outdoors, and trying new restaurants

I earned a BA in Music and Hispanic Studies from Vassar College. I am honored to support an organization committed to integrating faith and practice, helping people spiritually, emotionally and mentally with an equity focus.

I have served in various administrative roles in the non-profit sector including event planning for large conferences and organizing outreach efforts in the community. Additionally, I am very active in college ministry, the PTA, special education advocacy work, and writing, directing, and acting in various community theatre projects.

I am the assistant medical biller in Cornerstone Counseling Center of Chicago. In 2003, I received a nursing degree at Seoul Women's college of nursing. After graduating, I worked as a RN at Song-Do hospital ICU and a chemotherapy unit for 5 years. In 2008, I moved to the US and worked as a RN and medical coder in home health care. I believe mental health is important and was drawn to the mission and vision of Cornerstone. I love to knit, spend time with family, and explore different cultures.
