Cornerstone Counseling Center's
Frequently Asked Questions

What is therapy like?

Therapy is a collaborative process where a licensed therapist helps you identify thoughts, emotions, behaviors, habits, and past experiences that may be affecting your daily life. These challenges may show up as anxiety, depression, difficulty concentrating, sleep problems, relationship struggles, or feeling stuck.

At Cornerstone Counseling Center of Chicago, therapy is confidential, goal-oriented, and tailored to your unique needs. Your therapist provides an objective and compassionate perspective while helping you create a plan to move toward your personal and relational goals.

How long will I need to see a therapist?

The length of therapy depends on your goals and circumstances. Many clients begin with weekly sessions and later transition to bi-weekly sessions as progress is made.

Therapy continues until you and your therapist agree that your goals have been met. Some clients benefit from short-term therapy, while others prefer longer-term support.

How do I choose a therapist?

Our dedicated Intake Coordinator will speak with you to understand your concerns and match you with a therapist who has the right clinical expertise.

We consider:

  • Your therapy goals

  • Insurance coverage

  • Scheduling availability

  • Preference for Christian counseling or evidence-based therapy

We are intentional about creating strong therapist-client matches.

Do you only see clients who are Christians?

No. We provide therapy in Chicago for individuals of all backgrounds and beliefs.

We offer Christian counseling for clients who request a faith-based approach. Our therapists use evidence-based therapies and can thoughtfully integrate your spiritual beliefs into treatment if desired.

Do you have Spanish-speaking therapists?

Yes. We have Spanish-speaking therapists who offer telehealth therapy appointments.

Do you offer consultations?

Yes. We offer a free 15-minute phone consultation so you can determine if a therapist feels like the right fit before starting therapy.

What are my payment options?

We offer several options:

  • In-network with BlueCross BlueShield PPO, Aetna, Cigna, PBA, and United Healthcare

  • Out-of-pocket payment

  • Out-of-network reimbursement (monthly statements provided)

  • Sliding scale fees based on income

  • Client Access Program: $25 sessions with a supervised therapist in training.

How long are therapy appointments?

Standard therapy sessions last between 53–60 minutes.

Are my therapy sessions confidential?

Yes. Everything discussed in therapy is confidential.

There are limited legal exceptions:

  • Risk of harm to yourself or others

  • Suspected abuse of a child, elder, or vulnerable adult

  • Court order

Your therapist will review confidentiality policies during your first appointment.

Can I switch between telehealth and in-person sessions?

In many cases, yes. Switching between telehealth and in-person sessions may be possible depending on your therapist’s clinical recommendation and your treatment needs.

Do you prescribe medication?

No. Our therapists do not prescribe medication.

If you are interested in medication management, we can provide referrals to trusted providers. You will never be pressured to pursue medication.

Is therapy safe?

Therapy is generally safe and effective. However, discussing difficult emotions may temporarily increase distress. Working through these experiences with a licensed therapist often leads to long-term growth and healing.

If something feels overwhelming, communicate openly with your therapist so adjustments can be made.
